Have HUS or VIP designs from an older Viking workflow, SEW files, or a folder of mixed embroidery formats? CutArc Embroidery (Beta) converts up to 50 files at once on the free plan. The files are decoded and encoded on your device. No design bytes are uploaded, and your current canvas and Undo history stay as they are.
Which formats can I convert?
Reads 12: PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3, XXX, HUS, VIP, SEW, PEC, PCS and SHV.
Writes six: PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3 and XXX. HUS, VIP, SEW, PEC, PCS and SHV are input formats only. A filename extension alone does not guarantee that a particular file version can be read.
Select files and output formats
- Open the studio with your free CutArc account. In File, choose Convert several files….
- Select up to 50 files, each at most 512 KB, with a total of at most 25 MiB.
- Select one or more output formats. PES is selected initially. Choose formats your machine accepts.
- Choose Convert files. Each file is processed in turn; results show each selected target, including unsuccessful conversions.
- Choose Download ZIP and report. Extract
embroidery-converted.zipand readreport.txtbefore copying machine files to your machine or USB drive.
Original size and sewing order
Conversion keeps the original physical size and ordered sewing steps. It uses the existing Generic writers, including PES v6, independently of the machine selected on your canvas. Check PES v6 support and the actual hoop size on your machine. Designs larger than 350 mm wide or tall fail visibly; they are never shrunk to fit. Conversion does not redigitize the design or apply canvas basting and quality settings.
Writers may add entry stitches, so the output needle count can be higher. The report includes original size and counts, output counts, and warnings. Inspect travel and stops and sew a sample on matching fabric and stabilizer before your final piece. This converter does not establish compatibility with any additional machine.
Thread colors and placeholders
DST and EXP do not store thread colors. Files missing palette information use labelled placeholder colors. PES and JEF map colors to palettes; a converted color may differ from the source. Use the designer’s thread chart and check every sewing step. The report explains color loss and palette mapping for each target.
ZIP names and unsuccessful files
The ZIP contains successful machine files plus a UTF-8 report.txt with every source and selected target. Names are shortened to safe letters, numbers, underscores and hyphens; duplicates get numbered suffixes. Read the report to match each source to its outputs.
Damaged files, unsupported commands, excessive sizes or counts, timeouts, and targets that cannot preserve stitches are reported as failures. Other files continue. Even if every conversion fails, download the report to see why. At 128 MiB of output, conversion stops and remaining files are labelled “not converted: output limit”; the completed files are still available.
Cancel stops the active file and marks unfinished files cancelled. You can choose to download completed results and the cancellation report; nothing downloads automatically. Closing the dialog clears its files and results. Reopen it to try another batch.
